Drug includes any substance or mixture of substances manufactured for use in treatment, mitigation, diagnosis or prevention of any disease disorder, abnormal physical state, or the symptoms thereof,  in man or in animals; restoring, correcting or modifying organic functions in human being or in animals; disinfection, or the control of vermin, insects or pests.

According to the latest BBC video “sweet sweet codeine” by Ruona Meyer, BBC Reporter claimed the government says 3 million bottles are

consumed every single day. The video revealed a lot of Nigeria boys and girls get syrup high, even religious women drink it. Vast quantities are seized and destroyed by the government every year. Tones of it in northern Nigeria in 2017. The BBC undercover expose men selling syrup illegal straight from pharmaceutical companies onto the black market and also revealed that over one million cartons are sold weekly.

In Nigeria a lot of youth have mental illnesses because of a specific drug. The deadly, largely hidden epidemic that is sweeping across Nigeria.

To promote evidence-based youth-centred drug policy in Nigeria, YouthRISE Nigeria build capacity of participants, mostly youths cutting across civil society organizations, NGOs, health and the media were reoriented on the myths and misconceptions of drug use in Nigeria.
